PLANT HARMONES

One of the Important Coordination and control can be seen in Plants, there harmones help to coordinate growth, development and responses to the environment.

Based on Plant Harmones, they are Classified into two:-

  • Harmones to Promote growth
  • Harmones to stop growth

Harmones to promote Growth (Promoters)
  • Auxin
  • Gibberlins
  • Cytokinins
These three are important Plant harmones to Promote growth.

Auxin

  • When growing plants detect into light, the Auxin harmones synthesized at the shoot tip, helps the cells to grow longer.
  • The light comes in one side, and whereas the auxin diffuses the shoot to the shady part
  • Plants appears to bends towards the light.
  • The Concentration of Auxin stimulates the cells to grow longer on the side of the shoot.

GIBBERLINS

  • It helps to regulate the number of cells in the root.
  • It helps in growth of the stem, like Auxin
  • It helps in germination , flowering , fruit development etc
  • It has available more the 126 types of identified parts are found in fungi and plants (GA₁ , GA₂ )

CYTOKININS

  • It promote cell division and it is natural it present in greater concentration in areas of rapid cell division such as fruits and seeds.
  • It helps in Maturity and flowering

→ Harmones to Stop Growth (Inhibitors)
  • Abscisic Acid
  • Ethylene

ABSCISIC ACID

  • Inhibits Growth
  • It helps in Seed Dormancy
  • It effects include , wilting of leaves

ETHYLENE

  • Stimulating or regulating the ripening of fruit, the opening of flowers and the abscission (or shedding ) of leaves .
